Penn hospital seeks public's help to identify an unconscious patient .......Do you recognize this woman?

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania released photos of an unidentified patient, unconscious for nearly four months, in hopes that someone will recognize her.

Penn hospital seeks public's help to identify an unconscious patient...
She has lain in a hospital bed for nearly four months, unconscious, unresponsive and unidentified. Police have sent her fingerprints nationwide.
Social workers at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania have spent days sifting through missing person web sites, inviting in social service workers who might recognize her, calling community and health agencies.
Jane Doe — white, 5-feet, 5-inches tall and 140 to 150 pounds, probably in her 40s, with salt-and-pepper hair — went into cardiac arrest on a park bench in Kensington on the evening of Aug. 13. Although she was treated quickly — first by Philadelphia paramedics, then emergency room doctors at Aria Health’s Frankford campus, and, a few hours later, by the cardiac intensive care team at HUP — her heart did not regain a normal beat for at least 43 minutes, depriving her brain of oxygen.
The paramedics who tried to resuscitate her found nothing in her pockets, no slogans on her green T-shirt, nothing notable about her windbreaker, jeans shorts and white sneakers.
She has no scars, no indication of drug use. About the only thing social workers have to go on are three names on three tattoos: “Bruce” (in a ribbon surrounded by a heart) on her left arm; “Dave” on her right arm; “David” on her left calf.
Jane and John Does arrive often in emergency rooms. But most are identified within hours. Queries to dozens of hospitals around the region turned up no memories of any that took more than a week or so.
“The longest was probably maybe close to four or five days,” recalled Edythe Shapiro, a social worker at Methodist Hospital. It was a couple of years ago, she said, when she managed to identify an uncouscious man on her unit by comparing a tattoo (the name turned out to be his mother’s), car registrations pulled by police (a small number of cars were parked in a lot near where he was found), and newspaper obituaries (his mother had died, and he was listed as a survivor). She located relatives, and he actually woke up a few days later.
So far there are fewer clues to the current Jane Doe, and her future is less positive. Although technically not in a coma — she sleeps at night, is awake during the day, and reacts to pain — she has not responded to commands or movement for four months.
Her eyes flutter open — sometimes wide — and closed according to no pattern, and she has little brain activity. Her condition, a persistent vegetative state, is similar that of Terri Schiavo, whose life support was removed amid national controversy in Florida five years ago.
“There is no chance of recovery or cognitive function,” Charles Baillie, her attending physician, said Friday. Nevertheless, the patient is stable, on only minor medications, and breathing on her own. She could be transferred to a longterm care facility that is capable of dealing with the tube in her neck that is mainly helping to humidify her throat.
The problem is, nursing homes will not accept a patient without guarantee of payment, which requires a social security number, which requires a name.

Please help us fight human trafficking of all kinds.....

Change.org
Sign the Petition
Dear Readers of my blog this is a very heart wrenching subject for me to discuss but if you could all take a moment out of your day to read and sign this I would greatly appreciate it.
The numbers around child slavery and exploitation are simply staggering, and there aren't enough people fighting back.
More than 150 million children younger than 14 years-old are child laborers -- one in six children in the world. Those children do hazardous work in mines or on farms, often handling chemicals and pesticides or working near dangerous machinery. Others toil as domestic servants in homes or workshops.
Another 300,000 children under 18 are child soldiers used as combatants, messengers, porters, cooks, or sexual servants in some 30 conflicts worldwide. They are most often forcibly recruited or abducted, or feel so helpless and overwhelmed by poverty they are driven to join the fight.
Girls are particularly vulnerable. Some as young as 13 are trafficked as "mail-order brides." Nearly 90% of domestic workers trafficked in West and Central Africa are girls.
It's an epidemic that isn't getting enough attention from governments worldwide -- and Change.org members can help change that.
Once you add your name, will you forward this email to friends and family? We can fight this, but only if people know how bad the situation really is.

Thank you for helping and taking action!

P.S. You can learn a lot more about what Change.org members are doing to fight human trafficking of all kinds at http://humantrafficking.change.org.

ACLU Important ANNOUNMENT!!! & IT GETS BETTER PROJECT!

ACLU of PA Announcement

A Parent’s Nightmare

A Parent’s Nightmare
Read more about Elizabeth and Alex's ordeal on our website.
Alex, Elizabeth and Isabella
Today Isabella is a happy and healthy six-month-old living with her parents.
New parents Elizabeth Mort and Alex Rodriguez thought the
most difficult thing facing them when they arrived home from the hospital with their newborn daughter Isabella would be the sleepless nights.

Instead, they were faced with the unthinkable – having their
three-day-old daughter taken from them for five days by Lawrence County Children and Youth services because of Elizabeth’s false positive drug test performed by the hospital where Isabella was born. Elizabeth, who was eventually cleared of illegal drug use, had eaten an “everything” bagel with poppy seeds two hours before being admitted to the hospital, causing the inaccurate test result.

“When Isabella was gone, our family was just at a loss of words,” said Elizabeth. “I couldn't stop crying. Alex just didn't even know how to be himself. It felt like our heart was ripped in pieces. The most important person was missing, and we didn't know when we would see her again.”

The ACLU of Pennsylvania filed a lawsuit yesterday, October 28th, to stop this from happening to other new mothers in Lawrence County. Find out more about Elizabeth and Alex’s case on our website.

It Gets Better Project
"Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers killed themselves. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide."
These were the words posted on Facebook by Clint McCance, a school board member in the Midland School District in Independence Country, Arkansas late last week.
Quickly upon learning of McCance's actions, we called on our project's nearly 100,000 Facebook supporters to petition him to resign immediately.  And just one day later, live on CNN, Mr. McCance bowed to the pressure.
Check out the segment here, then share your thoughts with us:
Clint McCance Talks with Anderson Cooper
Our project is about more than a collection of heartfelt videos, it's about creating awareness and calling out the Clint McCance's of the world and shining a light on their bigotry and hate.
It's about making our schools and communities a safer place by inspiring students, teachers, parents and community members from all walks of life to come together to advocate for change all across the country.  And it's about holding people like Clint McCance -- people who are making things worse -- accountable.
It has been just over a month since our project began and we're seeing an impact, not just in Arkansas, but also in New Jersey where just last week lawmakers introduced an "anti-bullying bill of rights."  You've helped create an international issue out of something that was tragically ignored for far too long.
Stay tuned in the days ahead for more videos and many more opportunities to act in your area.
Thank you for reading!

DESIGN a T-Shirt for ONE.Org it's all for good causes. ♥

Last week ONE asked people to submit designs for "ONE’s Next Top T-Shirt", and I must say, I'm impressed by some of the excellent designs I've seen. But I know that sometimes true greatness doesn't come easy. So to make sure all of you have time to create something fantastic, we're extending our submission deadline to Monday, October 25th at 12:00 PM ET. So what are you waiting for?
After Monday's deadline, we'll narrow down all of the submissions to the top three and ask ONE members to choose their favorite. The winning design will then be printed on 100% organic cotton, African-made shirts and promoted to our over 2 million members around the world. Pretty cool, huh?
We've accomplished some truly remarkable things this year. We helped cancel Haiti's long-standing debt after the devastating earthquake. We helped pass the Cardin-Lugar Transparency amendment and helped secure more essential funding for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Designing a shirt might seem like small potatoes compared to all of that, but when we wear our ONE shirts, we show the world in a very public way that we’re proud to stand together in the fight against extreme poverty – and we hope that they’ll ask questions about our shirts and join the cause, too.
I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
Good luck,
